1. Goal definition and scope: the objectives of the study have
been defined in detail and all the aspects and processes with
a potential impact on climate change have been identified.
2. Inventory analysis: for every process identified in the first
phase, the input and output data of the same process have been
registered. Unlike ISO 14040, which needs information
regarding the processes of different categories of impact, the
data considered in this study concern only the inputs and
outputs that give rise to GHG emissions.
3. Impact assessment: the quantification of the impacts is performed
only in the impact category of climate change. In the
quantification of impacts, emissions factors have been used
that are associated with every single input or output unity, and
therefore, GHG emissions have been quantified, associated
with the different processes selected in the first phase. It has
been possible to identify the processes that have major
emissions.
4. Improvement assessment/interpretation: once quantified, the
impacts of every process and those that include the final
monitoring of the emissions have been selected. Then, several
proposals were suggested for reducing the GHG emissions of
the organization.
