We stayed in room 406 from 23/09 to 25/08.
The few days prior to this we stayed at Novotel, Ploenchit which provides a good comparison.
As I visit Bangkok on average 6 times a year over the last 4 years I have stayed in several hotels during this time.
The rooms at U Sukhumvit were well appointed and a reasonable size.
For this to be a true 4 Star hotel the staff, either need to be properly trained or managed effectively.
Maintenance, after complaining to reception twice about the cold Air Conditioning in our room a maintenance man duly arrived. Even setting the AC on 30 degrees the room was very cold, even the accompanying receptionist commented about how cold it was. Some adjustments were made, but this did not solve the problem. It was suggested that if the issue was not resolved to contact reception in the morning, we never did, it should have been followed up. Other issues toilet was not properly secured to the floor and there was also a leak behind the toilet.
Tuk Tuk Driver. The impression which they portrayed was that they were in no hurry and were happy to keep us waiting. Found this especially so with the older man with glasses.
Breakfast was poor the hot dishes i.e Bacon, Sausages and I suspect eggs were all precooked and held in the kitchen and served upon ordering one type of eggs with Sausage or Bacon etc, food was served not hot. Pastries did not seem fresh. Really serving a Pot of tea for two with one tea bag is the ultimate in being cost conscious.
As we were departing 25 August at 6.00am, I requested a breakfast box be prepared for both my wife and myself which comprised of half a cheese and ham sandwich, a croissant with butter (no knife was supplied to apply the butter), half a cup of Grapes and a yoghurt with no spoon supplied which was not eaten due to the lack of utensils. The tetrapak of Orange Juice supplied was nice in contrast to the disgusting cordial supplied at breakfast.
