This evidence is very significant from theoretical and practical perspective. While a large number of
antecedent factors have been identified for successful implementation of ERP projects, little is known
about the effect these factors have on the long-term benefits of investments in ERP. The findings of our
study have therefore enhanced the usefulness of certain antecedent factors by providing empirical
evidence of their effect on the competitive advantage gained by ERP projects. In terms of the practical
application, this evidence means that managers can achieve value out of their investments in ERP by
carefully managing certain antecedent factors early on in the deployment process of ERP within their
organisations.
