In conversations with Richie’s mother and father, Amy will listen for opportunities to tell them about the cello concert and then listen carefully for clues to help her support the whole family during their difficult transition. She may share books and pictures of musical instruments with Richie and his classmates, as well as read them stories in which characters stay emotionally connected while they are physically apart. She knows that Richie’s sharing of favorite books with her and with his father and mother can help the child maintain strong connections with all of the people he loves.
