One ofthe most important and challenging aspects ofearly care of the infant with myelomeningocele is positioning. Before surgery the infant remains in the prone position to minimize tension on the sac and the risk of trauma. The prone position allows for optimum positioning of the legs, especially in Cases of associated hip dysplasia. A variety of aids, including diaper rolls, foam p:tClS, or specially designed fmntes and appliances. are available to maintain the desired position.
