Edward Teach was a notorious 18th century pirate who went by the name of Blackbeard. He earned this nickname for his enormous black beard. Right before attracking a ship, Blackbeard was known to light matches he had woven in to his beard. His appearance would intimidate the crew, and more often than not, they would surrender the ship without a fight. For years, Blackbeard sailed the waters of the Carribean where he attacked and took valuables from more than 50 ships. Over the years, he gathered a large treasure of gold, silver, and jewels. Blackbeard was killed by a British officer in 1718. However , before his death, he revealed that he had buried his treasure where no one would find it. For many years, treasure hunters hav searched for the treasure, but so far no trace of it has been found.
