DATA: EARLY CHILDHOOD LONGITUDINAL STUDY—KINDERGARTEN CLASS
This investigation employs the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study—Kindergarten Class
(ECLS-K) dataset which was collected and provided by the National Center for Education and
Statistics (NCES). It is a longitudinal study of a nationally representative cohort of 21,260
kindergartners beginning in the 1998 to 1999 school year and who are followed through eighth
grade. The study collected data on children in over 1,000 different schools, as well as
information on their families, teachers, and school facilities to examine early childhood
experiences and the impact of numerous variables on early childhood development, learning, and
early school performance. Seven waves of the study were administered—fall and spring of
