Numerous aspects must be considered
when setting glycemic targets. The
ADA proposes optimal targets, but
each target must be individualized to
the needs of each patient and their
disease factors. When possible, such
decisions should be made with the
patient, reflecting his or her preferences,
needs, and values. Figure 6.1 is not
designed to be applied rigidly but used
as a broad construct to guide clinical
decision making (45), both in type 1
and type 2 diabetes.
