To preserve the country’s remaining natural forests, the Government
has put into effect (in October 1989) a moratorium on felling, logging, extracting,
and selling timber. This was followed by another order placing a moratorium on tree felling in all natural forests until year 2000. A new forest
policy was promulgated in October 1994 by the Government of Bangladesh.
