The research method outlined above has been implemented in
three phases, as detailed below:
1. Phase I: In this phase, the research team conducted interviews
with engineers involved in risk assessment processes and investigated
the database systems used by the engineers in terms
of what information resides in them and how they can manipulate
the data for viewing.
Identify requirements via system investigation: Various database
systems that were frequently used by engineers were
identified and evaluated to determine the data that resides in
such systems as well as to view plots generated for engineers
using such systems to prepare an initial list of requirements for
face-to-face interviews. These systems categorized as instrumentation
databases, file sharing repositories, asset management
systems, and geotechnical and construction information
systems are for keeping track of ongoing remedial actions and
their impacts on dams.
