Blairgowrie Golf Club in Perthshire will host The 2014 Junior Ryder Cup on 22 and 23 September. The Rosemount Course (pictured © John Simpson) is the venue for the matches.
Created in 1997, The Junior Ryder Cup is a biennial contest between Europe and America, and the teams consist of boys and girls under the age of 18. The USA retained the trophy in 2012, winning 14½-9½ at Olympia Fields in Chicago.
The Junior Ryder Cup is recognised as a platform for the golfing stars of tomorrow with players such as Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy and Hunter Mahan having gone on to compete in The Ryder Cup. Other notable Junior players include Carly Booth and Suzann Pettersen.
Designed by James Braid with influences from Dr. Alister McKenzie, the renowned architect of the Augusta National course, Rosemount has played host to a number of prestigious professional and amateur tournaments. It was the scene of Greg Norman’s first European Tour victory in the 1977 Martini event.
Blairgowrie Golf Club will also welcome a host of schoolchildren who have been inspired to take up the game through ClubGolf, a Scottish Government legacy initiative. This year is the first time the Junior Ryder Cup has been held in the same country as the host nation of The Ryder Cup at the same time.
