3.5. Thermal analysis
DSC is a useful technique to provide certain thermodynamic
information, such as the temperature and enthalpy associated with
transitions in materials during endothermic or exothermic processes.
Two endotherms with peak temperatures of the control
(86.6 C) and treated SDF (92.5 C) were observed in the DSC thermograms
in Fig. 3c. A significant upshift (p < 0.05) of the peak temperature
of the treated group demonstrated that the short-chain
SDF concentration was compared to the control group because
short-chain SDF has strong hydrogen bonds within its junction
zones that require more energy to decompose the SDF crystalline
structure
