Impact of community forest management on income, household food
security and poverty levels As discussed above, participating in community forestmanagement
may contribute to household livelihood promotion in manyways. These
include fulfilling the basic needs of local communities, investing money
in supporting income generation activities of the poor people, and providing
access to forestland (Kanel and Niraula, 2004). The impact of
community participation in forest management is estimated by
employing the propensity score matching approach. The average treatment
affect for the treated (ATT) results for the propensity score
matching are presented in Table 3. The ATT is the difference between
the participants and non-participants with the same propensity score.
Four different matching algorithms i.e. nearest neighbor matching,
kernel-based matching; radius matching and mahalanobis metric
matching, are employed for the estimation of ATT.
