Introduction
A large number of universities have invested in a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
which provides opportunities to deliver what is often called ‘blended learning’. This
combines a mix of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) with various learning resources and delivery methods. In 2009, the University of Winchester in the UK
used the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (Modle), a common
VLE, to create a blended learning environment for a range of accounting and financial
management modules. The aim of this article is to present the findings of an exploratory
case study which examined students’ perceptions about the introduction of an ICT-based
blended learning approach in three accounting and financial management modules. The
first section of the article explores the literature about blended learning specifically
from the perspective of students. The second section describes the conduct of the case
study and its findings. The final section draws conclusions and identifies some practical
implications.
