Pollen sedimentation of a coastal area is likely to be a direct result of proximity to the source, which includes both mangrove and the adjacent non-mangrove flora. The results of this study show that pollen grains found in the sediments were derived from various taxonomic groups. The depositional sites of mangrove swamp received a pollen supply in three ways and that of the marine sites in two ways. Most of the environmental types in the coastal areas can be characterized by the distribution of pollen types. The present findings on pollen sedimentation may be relevant to future studies pertaining to the recognition of an ancient shoreline or the palaeogeography of coastal areas.
