An alternative mechanism
for simultaneously treating the organic complexing agent
tributylphosphate (TBP) and uranium in nuclear waste
streams is the precipitation of the uranium with inorganic
phosphate released from the mineralization of TBP with
TBP-degrading microorganisms [44*]. A phosphatase-containing
CitrobaGter sp. can perform a similar precipitation
of uranium when uranium-contaminated water is amended
with an organic phosphate donor [
