cellulosome in Ruminococcus flavefaciens for insoluble substrates (86) and outer membrane protein complex in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron for soluble substrates, including
starch-utilization-structure (sus) gene clusters that bind to
and hydrolyze starch (87). It is unknown whether other Ruminococci have cellulosomes, but Ruminococcus bromii, enriched by resistant starch in vivo and in vitro (88), is closely
related to R. flavefaciens.
