Zymomonas mobilis, a gram-negative bacterium, has been attracting a lot of attention for bio-ethanol production. It is an osmo- and ethanol-tolerant bacterium that has shown higher specific
rates of glucose uptake and ethanol production [6,7] via the Entner-Doudoroff pathway under anaerobic conditions. Z. mobilis has a potential for industrial ethanol production from raw sugar,
sugarcane juice, and sugarcane syrup [8].
