severalhabitatsoftheRibeiraValleyregion.Thediversityofspeciesfoundamongthemsuggested
thatthevegetationremainingwithinhumansettlementsfavoredthesurvivalandthepopulation
increaseofsomemosquitoes.Amongthereare:Ae.scapularis,Ae.serratus,Cx.(Culex),Cx.
nigripalpusandCx.(Melanoconion)suchasCx.ribeirensis.Thatpreservationrolemaybeattributed
totherearingoflivestockandtheconsequentincreaseinthenumberofbloodsources.Thesespecies
maybeclassifiedashemisynanthropesandCx.oedipusapparentlyevolvingtotheeusynanthropic
status.Ontheotherhand,An.cruziishowedanasynanthropicbehaviour,withalowdegreeofsurvival
inthemodifiedhumanenvironment.Epidemiologicalimplicationsofthedataarementioned.
