3.3. Method application to real samples
To verify if the optimized and validated chromatographic method could be applied in the food quality control laboratories, twelve corn and cane syrups samples of different origins and manufacturers were analyzed in triplicate. Data are presented as means and standard deviations in Table 3. The levels of HMF were distributed over a wide range of concentrations (109.2–2121.3 mg kg1) in syrup samples and followed the order cane syrup < corn syrup (Table 3).
