However, the main advantage of these
composites is characterized by the volume fraction and
size of the fillers. If the fillers decrease in size from the
micro- to the nanoscopic scale, unique properties of
polymer nanocomposites are emphasized as the small
size of the fillers leads to a dramatic increase in the
interfacial area as compared with the ordinary composites.
This interfacial area then creates a significant
volume fraction of the interfacial polymer with the
properties different from the bulk polymer even at low
filler loadings
