As a follow-up to this study, we intend to use simulation
as a pre- and post-test of student’s skill working
with interpreters and adapting their care to the cultural
needs of standardized clients. Students who go to Peru
and those who do not will be compared. Additionally,
longitudinal follow-up of participants following graduation
has begun to assess the influence of the experience
on their subsequent nursing practice. We intend to evaluate
students who work with underserved or ethnic
populations in their community health experience and
compare the outcomes of these local experiences with
those of students who participate in an international
experience. Finally, we have begun a study to evaluate
the learning outcomes for students as a consequence
of their inter-professional experience as additional
disciplines participate with us in this experience
