4.1. Lucent business strategy
The greatest challenge has been the shift in focus of the Lucent
business strategy from manufacturing to greater reliance
on third parties for product materials and manufacturing services.
The majority of redirection occurred during the development
and implementation of the PBEMS. Several business
restructurings, increased and changing work assignments,
and interfacing with multiple product realization processes
within the business are only a few of the challenges that had
to be overcome.Implementing a new management system during a period
of turmoil did have several advantages. As groups were reorganized
and resources were reduced, opportunities for streamlining
and increased efficiencies were available. Emphasis was
placed on commonality and consistency within the business.
Later as organizational assignments became clear and the redundant
product realization process was identified, integration
of eco-design issues was simplified.
