Some attempts to confer biological properties to a polymeric material by an appropriate choice of the phenolic monomers used were done. In that regard, the antibiotic and antioxidant properties of anacardic acid attracted attention. Anacardic acid is the trivial name which was given to the major constituent of cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale) shell extract, and which remained even after it was discovered that it was actually a mixture of salicylic acid derivatives, bearing a 15 carbon atoms chain at carbon atom 6, featuring 1, 2 or 3 double bonds.
