In Thailand, English is widely used as the international language for
communicating with people from other countries. It is obvious that English is the
most predominant language utilized in international communication for worldwide
businesses, including service industries and hotel businesses. Harding (2003) and
Revell (1994) stated that English is used as the communication medium in the hotel
business because those who work in the business encounter many different types of
travelers, a high percentage of whom will speak a different language other than one’s
own. It is likely that plenty of your guests will speak English. Therefore, proficiency
in English is a requirement for all students with a major in hotel management, to prepare them for employment in a wide variety of positions such as reception,
kitchen, bar jobs, restaurant, food and beverage, customer service, and catering.
