Task 10 – Visual Aides
Description of Task: Students will have already participated in a discussion
about the purpose of visual images (connect emotionally, reinforce ideas and
concepts, etc.). Students will bring in examples of visual communication in
advertising, politics, and other symbols. They will be shown several visual
aides for a variety of speeches in the past and must evaluate as a class if they
are effective or not. With ones that the class decides are ineffective, each
student must choose one and decide what needs to be “fixed” on it. (Some
things that might be wrong are: too much information, unorganized layout,
colors or pictures don’t match the tone of the topic, too little information,
hard to read from a distance, etc.) Student will recreate the visual aid fixing
those mistakes. Students will create their own visual aides for three other
upcoming tasks.
