Potential impacts of the project on the aquatic biodiversity during construction is likely to be significant on the species composition and their abundance. Construction activities for the dam and power plant will cause wastewater from the construction activities, high sediment from silt/sand and residue materials. During construction, fisheries management plan should be carried out in order to maintain the fish stock in the project area.
After impoundment, production of natural aquatic resources should be investigated at least in the dry and wet seasons. The subsistence fisheries are an important activity of the people in Nam Cha basin. The household near rivers consume fishes as the important source of protein. Even the effect of reservoir impoundment on aquatic population is likely to be significantly positive impact, however, changing of flow regime may affect fish species composition. Monitoring program and fisheries management plan should be established both in upstream and downstream portion of Nam Bak project area.
