4. Conclusions
The bionic composite material was successfully fabricated usingSHS reaction in the 40 wt.% Cu–Ti–B4C system during manganesesteel casting. The bionic composite material was alternant combi-nation of manganese steel matrix and unit region in a relativelylarge dimension. The unit regions mainly consist of TiC, TiB2, Cuand austenite without any intermediate phases. The metallurgybonding between the unit region and steel matrix in the bioniccomposite material was good. Due to the sufficient infiltration ofthe melted steel, the unit region exhibits the fewest macro-poresand blowholes. It indicated that near fully dense bionic compositematerial can be successfully fabricated. The wear tests showed thatthe wear resistance of the proposed bionic composite material isbetter than that of pure manganese steel.
