. With the tag, luggage data is protected against external in influences and tampering and, unlike paper, it can never be ripped off. The data module automatically turns off after 30 seconds, so it is permanently off during the flight to avoid sending any interfering signals and meets all IATA requirements in terms of flying security.
Moreover, the readability of the data on
the display powered by E Ink Mobius exceeds that of today’s paper tags. Even in hot or cold temperatures, or rough conditions, the system remains in complete working order and without damage. The result is that Rimowa suitcases equipped with the Rimowa Electronic Tag get lost far less often.
The product launch of the Rimowa Electronic Tag is planned for the beginning of 2016.
Collaboration
The Rimowa Electronic Tag is a result of the Bag2Go project, a cross-industry collaboration initiated by Airbus with T-Systems and Rimowa that has already attracted great interest worldwide. It led to the foundation of a wholly owned subsidiary of Rimowa in 2014 under the name Bag2Go GmbH, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. The company, led by Jan Reh, combines the knowledge of three worlds: aviation, travel and telecommunications.
