LEWIS (1967) found that egg and feeding stages of Euchaeta japonica survived better when an enrichment solution was added to the culture medium .An ascorbate acid assay, which compared stock artificial seawater with culture medium, indicates that the latter has a definite Cu++ chelating capacity. By further comparison, foamate has little, if any, Cu++ chelating characteristics. Absence of chelating compounds in the foam indicates that some organic sub-stances, probably free amino acids, still accumulate progressively in the culture medium.
