This two-part article will review the anatomy, physiology, and approach to the repair of 10 common CHD lesions (also known as defects or anomalies : bicuspid aortic valve , atrial septal defect,ventricular septal defect, atrioventricular septal defect,coarctation of the aorta, pulmonic stenosis, tetralogy of fallot,transposition of the great arteries,congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries, and single ventricle defect. Long-term outcomes of the treatments will be reviewed, identifying implications for nursing care. Part 1 provides an overview of six of the 10 conditions.
