This is the big one. After a remarkable six iOS 8 updates in just 5 months, Apple has taken another major step towards getting its next major release out the door: iOS 8.2.
Last night Apple pushed iOS 8.2 beta 5 to developers (build number ‘12D5480a’, for those keeping track). No launch date has yet been given for a final release, but Thinky Bits’ excellent iOS beta release history graph shows Apple has only twice gone beyond five betas for any major iOS version since 2011.
Why should we be excited about its launch? Officially the big news is iOS 8.2 will add compatibility with the upcoming Apple Watch, which Tim Cook confirmed in an earnings conference call last week will be released in April.
