Blasting is very essential process for mining, however, it still remains a potential source of numerous
human and environmental hazards. The excess energy that travels beyond the zone of rock breakage
can cause damage to surface structures, fly rock, air overpressure and annoyance to the residents in
the vicinity of the mines. Similarly, the high-energy explosion gases that escape into the atmosphere
around a blast site may cause the air to vibrate at pressure above the normal atmospheric pressure
creating an air blast. Even when the actual vibrations are within statutory limits, air blast can result in a
higher perceived vibration and hence greater nuisance to the residents close to the blast site.
