Copper could have affected belowground structures. For instance, Ali et al. (2002) recorded significant reductions of root length in P. australis due to copper toxicity, being reduction of root elongation the factor mostly contributed to plant biomass decrease at high metal concentrations. In the present study, no root length measurement was performed. However, a decrease of it could explain the total biomass weight decrease.
