Upon realizing that the costs involved to film in a gun club were going to be astronomical compared to the shoe-string budget I had to work with, we needed to revamp or rethink how we were going to pull this project off. My ultimate goal for any project I do is maintaining strong production value. I am a big believer in hi-quality visuals, especially when everything you want to achieve is pulled off in production vs. post. This is the type of filmmaking I enjoy the most. I love action films, but today a lot of the emotion that I latched onto when I was younger has dissipated with CGI becoming so relevant in story telling. Though the feat was small and contained, “This is Sally Hatchet” was my first endeavor with working firearms, squibs, and special effects (blood gags, etc) and it was interesting to learn the costs associated with doing things legit. My biggest hurdles were budgeting for a licensed gun wrangler, on set special effects/squibs, as well as acquiring the location permit, police officer, and safety of the crew required to film a project with those elements.
