5. Conclusions
This study has tried to estimate the CFP from sugar produced
from sugarcane in eastern Thailand. The data used were taken from
surveys, interviews, questionnaires and statistics, covering the
majority of sugarcane farmers and cultivation area in the region.
Using the cultivation practice data 2007 cropping years and the
averaged data during 2003e2007 from sugar mills, the estimated
CFP was 0.55 kg CO2e kg1 sugar. More than 88% of greenhouse
emissions came from the sugarcane cultivation. This includes N
fertilizer application and fossil fuel uses. Contributions from
herbicide and insecticide uses were negligible. We found that the
data input for CFP calculation varied widely depending on the
