According
to the growth charts, 73% (n = 105) of the children in our sample
were normal weight, and 27% (n = 39) were overweight. In the normal
weight group,means (with standard deviations in parentheses)
of weight,height, andBMI were 17.5 kg (2.5), 1.04 m(0.07), and 15.8
(0.86) respectively. In the overweight group, means and standard
deviations of weight, height, and BMI were 21.8 kg (5.8), 1.06 m
(0.08), and 19.3 (2.7) respectively. In girls, 71% (n = 48) were normal
weight while 29% (n = 20) were overweight. These proportions
were the same in boys, with 72% (n = 55) who were normal weight
and 28% (n = 21) who were overweight.
