The new branding strategy had led to some changes in HTC‘s operations—particuIarly the reduction in its ODM
business. In 2003, for instance, HP was the dominant client, constituting 90 percent of the ODM business. In 2007,
however, subcontract orders accounted for only 10 percent of HTC’s revenue, with the HTC brand making up the
remaining 90 percent. By the end of 2009, the company’s subcontracting business had dropped almost to zero. The
last regular ODM order was placed by T-Mobile in 2009. Since then, HTC chose to work only on special ODM projects (e.g., developing a digital mobile television project for Qualcomm). In July 2006 (prior to the introduction of its HTC
brand), HTC had secured the third spot in BusinessWeek’s list of InfoTech-100 companies in Asia. In August 2007,
it was rated second-best among the magazine's list of top performing technology companies. In 2008, HTC was the
first handset maker that used Google's Android operating system to develop a smartphone. It was named the 2010
Technology Brand of the Year at T3's prestigious Gadget Awards. The award was give to the rnost innovative. functional, visible and stylish gadget and technology of the past 12 months by more than 750,000 readers and a panel of expert judges.
