When necessary, bimetallic nanoparticles of desired size
and formation density can be prepared on SnO2 nanowires by
controlling the -ray radiolysis conditions. Figs. 5(b) and (c) are
low- and high-magnification TEM images, respectively, taken from
a bimetallic Pd/Pt-functionalized SnO2 nanowire. The black dots
in Fig. 5(b) reveal bimetallic Pd/Pt nanoparticles that appear well
anchored on the SnO2 nanowire. The localized high-resolution TEM
image in Fig. 5(c) shows the (1 1 1) planes of Pd and Pt nanoparticles,
which indicates their coexistence.
