In Spain, there is no official au pair programme. However, EU and EFTA citizens as well as citizens from other countries are still entitled to work as au pairs in Spain.
Duties
You main task as an au pair in to look after your host children. You can also help out with light household chores.
You and your host family need to clarify what your au pair duties will be and then write these in your au pair contract. (Check: Don't forget: the au pair contract, insurance etc.).

Board and lodging
Besides pocket money, you receive free board and lodging. You are entitled to food and accommodation if you are ill and during your holiday time.
Working hours
There are no official regulations on how many hours you need to work as an au pair in Spain. We recommend that you work 30 hours per week, babysitting included.
Free time
An au pair has one day off per week. This should fall on a Sunday, once a month.
Holidays
There are no official regulations concerning an au pair's holiday entitlement in Spain. You should agree with your family on how much holiday you will be entitled too before you depart for Spain. We recommend that for 12 months of au pairing, an au pair receives 4 weeks of holiday. You and your host family can use this recommendation to calculate holiday entitlements for longer or shorter au pair stays.
Language course
You should attend a Spanish course to learn the language more effectively. Usually, an au pair pays for their own course. It is recommended that you ask your family for help in finding a suitable course. Au pairs who apply for a student visa must be enrolled in a language school recognised by the Instituto Cervantes.
