Elementary school is commonly agreed to be an opportune time from the perspective of students’ development. In order to assist students in developing a global perspective, U.S. teachers often create an active learning environment that encourages questioning and decision making and promotes the concept of a global system. With the supporting evidence, there is a need for changing teacher-education programs and interdisciplinary curriculum models in elementary social studies. Moreover, interdependence of cultures must be stressed in geography courses and curricula. Students may also learn a second language and be encouraged to take actions in local community. When they have confrontations, global citizenship education assumes that attitudes and values should always be linked to just and equitable solutions to the world.
