Distance from generation points
Proximity to waste production centers is an important factor in
the economic feasibility of a candidate landfill site. According to
this criterion, the selected sites that are closer to solid waste generation
points are preferred more than sites that are further away.
According to the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan
(ISWMP) of Mahshahr County, a transfer station will be established
near Mahshahr city to receive all MSW from the cities of Mahshahr,
Bandar Emam and Chamran. This point was considered as a benchmark
and the distance of all candidate landfill sites to the transfer
station was evaluated. The buffer zones with 2000 m, 2000–3000m,
3000–5000 m, 5000–10000 m and more than 10000 m were scored
10, 8, 5, 2 and 1 respectively. The results are shown in Figure 3.
