So far, few studies have compared themuscle protein synthetic responses to the ingestion of different protein
dense foods. Recently,we observed similar increases in postprandial muscle protein synthesis rates following the ingestion of milk or lean beef, both providing 30 g of protein (unpublished observations). Despite
the fact that large differences were observed in the postprandial rise in plasma amino acid concentrations (and leucine in particular), no differences were observed in postprandial muscle protein synthesis rates following milk or beef ingestion (Fig. 1).
