This study has revealed loss in postharvest quality of raw macadamia kernels dropped as nuts-in-shell at low moisture
content onto nuts-in-shell or a metal plate. Loss of quality such as shoulder damage, oiliness, dustiness and cuticle damage
detracts from kernel appearance. The macadamia industry could reduce postharvest commercial losses by minimizing the number of drops. Easy let-downs and polymer surface coatings for dropping equipment would greatly reduce impacts and improve quality.
