The majority of published studies aimed to demonstrate the utility of tick control compounds on dogs have
been focused on their acaricidal efficacy against the ixodid tick species. However, relatively little research has
been carried out to determine the ability of such compounds to prevent transmission of tick-borne diseases to
dogs. Guidelines for evaluating the efficacy of ectoparasiticides for the treatment, prevention and control of tick
infestations on dogs do not include suggestions to quantify the dynamics of transmission of tick-borne pathogens
