According to the World Bank about 13% of urban water users receive water at inadequate pressure. Furthermore, 60% of China's 661 cities face seasonal water shortage, and over 100 cities have severe water constraints.[2] Contamination of drinking water from feces is a critical health problem in China, as in other developing countries, that causes serious illnesses such as diarrhea and viral hepatitis. A recent survey by UNICEF in 11 provinces found that over half of all drinking water samples contained unacceptably high levels of bacteria.[14] Currently, China is facing a shortage of water due to climate and rapid development.[10] in 2013, China "for the first time issued water quotas to every province, setting targets for annual consumption by 2015".[10]
