Dealing with the unexpected
Like the comedian who cracks the wrong joke, to the wrong audience on the wrong night, it can be a long journey back from that tumbleweed moment when we get it wrong. It is probably fair to say that the biggest mistake you can make as a communicator in any walk of life is to alienate your audience.
We are going to make mistakes, we know that before we set out and a technical fault which causes a video message to fail or a server crash which prevents a vital staff notice going out on time, sometimes just cannot be avoided. Hopefully, we learn something from it and we move on, a bit bruised perhaps, but a bit wiser also.
