VI. CONCLUSIONS
Digital TV systems are becoming too complex for lesstechnically-
inclined people [6]. Especially because of the
diversity of available remote controllers for digital TV sets and
set-top boxes, solving the incompatibility problem between the
remote controllers and the digital TV sets/set-top boxes
become an on-going issue. This paper proposed a novel
method of modifying the set-top box to accommodate different
remote controllers and a middleware technology oriented
solution is thus presented. As apposed to the universal remote
controller based solution, the comparisons are made and some
design guidelines are discussed.
Although the solution is currently only on the preliminary
stage, the theoretical analyses have already shown the
promising features. Further evaluations of the proposed
solution including lab tests and field trials are needed and
hopefully the manufactures could integrate the solution into the
commercial products in the near future.
