Two TAs conduct each simulation. One TA role-plays the SP while the otter TA monitors the audiovisual equipment, pays close attention to the interaction, and takes notes on communication and relational skills at the conversation unfolds. At the end of the encounter, students are encouraged to share their personal thoughts and feeling about the interview. To provide specific, quality feedback to students, the TAs use a feedback guide (Table2). Students are provided immediate comments on their communication and relational skills from the TAs at the end of the recording session using this tool. Students are required to complete a communication self refection paper, in which they identify therapeutic and nontherapeutic communication approaches, as well as their use of empathy, genuineness, and positive regard. The faculty member teaching the students clinically reviews the videorecordings, including individual TA feedback to students. Faculty then provide additional individual written and verbal feedback with emphasis on specific therapeutic and nontherapeutic student responses. During clinical conference, students Share their learning experiences with peers, with an emphasis on which communication skills are more effective with different patient psychiatric symptoms.
