The Column of the Dancers is probably the most representative of the Delphic offerings.
Enthroned on a magnificent column decorated with acanthus leaves, three dancers, in finely made robes support a tripod which serves as a base for a cauldron.
Inside this is ompholo stone marking the world’s navel.
Yet another superimposition in order to reach as high as possible to the Heavens.
It was seen from every side amongst all the other offerings which pressed up against the temple and Apollo’s alter. In one sense it was to pay homage to god – but they also wanted it to be seen by all the world
